Concrete Crack Injection Repair – Epoxy Resin and Urethane Resin
If you live in Connecticut, its a good chance you have cracks in your concrete foundation wall. With the thermal cycling we experience here, concrete foundations can develop cracks over time. These cracks can then let in water and damage the interior contents of the basement. In severe cases, cracks in a concrete basement wall can signify that there is a structural defect with the wall. Whether it is to stop water or to structurally reinforce the concrete crack, epoxies and urethane resins can be injected into the cracks to repair them. (Permanently!)
Causes of concrete cracks:
-
The most common reason that your foundation might have a crack in it is from settling. The average home can weigh up to 130,000 lbs., not including the foundation. This settling occurs within the first two years of the home being built. Ninety five percent of the homes in CT have cracks in there foundations. Its a good idea to have these cracks repaired so that they don’t get any larger and allow more water and moisture into the basement.
-
Concrete will shrink as it cures. This curing process reduces the amount of water in the concrete and it shrinks in volume. This shrinkage causes the concrete to crack. This is a normal process and it is not to be cause for concern. However, they can still let in water and damage the interior contents of a basement. Shrinkage cracks usually are less than 1/16″ in width and remain a constant width throughout the life of a foundation.
How to Determine if the crack in your foundation is a structural issue.
There are a few easy ways to determine if a concrete crack is the result of a structural compromise in your foundation, or nothing to worry about.
-
The crack runs on a severe diagonal.
-
Horizontal cracks in a foundation wall indicate a serious problem.
-
Crack widths that increase over time.
-
Crack widths in excess of 3/4 inches or more.
-
If you run your hand over the crack and your hand stops and doesn’t slid smoothly over, then the structural integrity of the foundation has been compromised.
